WHO CAN GET PILES?
Anyone at any age can be affected by haemorrhoids. They are very common with about 50% of people experiencing them at some point in life. However they are common in elderly people and during pregnancy. Some cause may be inherited. More commonly affects elderly population. They affect both men and women. They are caused by continuous high pressure in the veins present in lower rectum, which occurs because humans stand upright. They are particularly common in pregnancy because of the additional pressure from the baby, and because of hormonal changes. Sometimes they result from straining hard to pass faeces, which is more likely if you do not eat enough fibre, or lifting heavy weights. They are not caused by sitting on hot radiators or cold, hard surfaces, or by sedentary jobs. A family history, as with many other health-related problems, is frequently found and is likely to be a significant risk factor for developing piles
